DECONSTRUCTION OF FILM OPENINGS

 Hey there! Today I’ll be doing an analysis on a film opening. We will be discussing all the elements in the film opening.

 The Film opening that I will analyse is from the movie the godfather.

At first we see a J cut followed by a big closeup shot of a man in a three piece suit who has a moustache and is bald but has some hair on his sides. The person has an Italian accent which conveys that the person is from Italian roots. Low key lighting is also being used to express the man’s feelings. The shot turns from a big close up shot to a close up shot and then to a medium close up shot while the person is sharing his problems. The person seems to be wealthy but he seems powerless that is why he is asking for help from a person. The audience doesn’t know who this person is that the Italian man is asking help from so that creates suspense and keeps the audience interested in the movie. The person also seems to be emotional which is a very unconventional representation of men.
